The Fondation Louis Vuitton will open to the public on Monday October 27th, 2014 after three special open days for the Inaugural Weekend.

Commissioned by Bernard Arnault and designed by Frank Gehry, the Fondation Louis Vuitton is located in Paris, on the site of the Jardin d’Acclimatation in the Bois de Boulogne. The Fondation Louis Vuitton will be principally associated with artistic creation in all its forms.

For the opening of the Fondation Louis Vuitton, the artistic program will unfold in three successive stages between October 2014 and July 2015.  Each stage will include a temporary exhibition, a partial presentation of the collection, and a series of events.

The first stage – October to December 2014 – invites the public to a ‘voyage of creation’ essentially devoted to the discovery of the architecture of the building with:

− An exhibition on the architecture of Frank Gehry for the Fondation Louis Vuitton. This exhibition will be presented in dialogue with the first major European retrospective of the work of Frank Gehry, organized simultaneously at the Centre Pompidou.
− A presentation of several emblematic works from the permanent collection.
− A group of special commissions related to the architecture of the building including a work by Olafur Eliasson.

The auditorium of the Fondation will present several performances most particularly two musical events:

− A recital by the pianist Lang Lang on October 28th, 2014.
− A series of 8 retrospective concerts by Kraftwerk, the pioneering electronic group, from November 6 to 14, 2014.

The two following stages, opening in December 2014 and July 2015 will be announced shortly.

  • A SECOND FIFA WORLD CUP CASE FOR LOUIS VUITTON

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has commissioned Louis Vuitton to conceive the trunk case which carries the World Cup 2014 trophy all football players dream to hold.

  • IN SITU – 1: BLANK WALL FOR ANDREA BOWERS

From June 4th, the Espace culturel Louis Vuitton has launched IN SITU–1, the first edition of an open-studio program where international artists are invited to produce an artwork under your eyes.

For this first edition, Parisian visitors will witness all stages of the creative process — from inspiration to fruition — and experience unique encounters with American artist, Andrea Bowers (featured above), until September 2014. Her final artwork will remain exhibited in Paris from September 26th, 2014 till January 4th, 2015. Meanwhile, the program will continue in Tokyo with South Korean artist Min-Jeong Seo, and in Munich with Malaysian artist Simryn Gill.

These three artists will work with a variety of media and literally start with a “blank page“ at each location, being entirely free to choose the way they inhabit and transform each Espace.

As Michael Burke, Chairman and CEO at Louis Vuitton, says: “A defined passion for creation has always been at the core of Louis Vuitton, which translates into the idea of witnessing how new work materializes and share the experience of the creative process”.

Follow Andrea Bowers’ work performance here.
