Albert Oehlen’s multifaceted oeuvre showcases the innate freedom of the creative act, from questioning the medium of painting itself, remaining opposed to traditional hierarchies, and continually pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. A concept impossible to summarize were it not for the painter’s words, “qualities that I want to see brought together: delicacy and coarseness, color and vagueness, and underlying them all, a base note of hysteria.” The exhibit reveals six paintings offering an invitation to discover the unique works of the German artist.
