Conceived by the late artist Dani Karavan, Axe Majeur expresses a vision of utopia through twelve immense open-air installations. Using water, light, wind, sand, concrete, stone, and steel, this powerful series of sculptures aligns to convey a harmonious relationship between nature, space, and time. From the imposing “Douze Colonnes” to the commanding “La Passerelle” bridge, a striking horizon points towards new frontiers.
I see this axis as if it were a succession of doors leading elsewhere. Portals that open to other eras and places.
Echoing the optimistic atmosphere and graphic forms of the show’s idyllic setting, Nicolas Ghesquière brings together a colorful ensemble of geometric silhouettes. Like the uniforms of an American marching band, the collection parades in a procession that is both assertive and joyful, propelling a sense of forward motion.
Imagery mixing the cosmic and the everyday, fabrics made of hybrid jacquards, embroideries sewn to strange effect… the collection’s dense details and confident shapes speak to its central premise of imagining further horizons full of promise.
